Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! My name is Julie Burke and I have been a part of American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad [AYUDA] since 2005 and have been a volunteer counselor at Campo Amigo Ecuador for the last three summers. This year AYUDA is taking on many new projects and programs and I am setting a personal goal of raising $8,000 this year so we may be able to continue our efforts [but that is definitely not a maximum amount!]. AYUDA's mission is to empower youth to become agents of change in diabetes communities around the world.
AYUDA began over 12 years ago in the hallways of hospitals in Ecuador helping children with type 1 diabetes understand what it means to have diabetes and how to better manage their health. Now, AYUDA runs a diabetes camp in Ecuador called Campo Amigo Ecuador for children and youth all across the country to learn how to live happier, healthier lives with diabetes. The kids wait all year to participate in this camp and it's truly a life-changing experience! The campers pay nothing before, during or after. Everything is provided for them [including medical supplies] through the generosity of donors like yourselves.
The money I am raising, however, will not only go toward the Campo Amigo Ecuador program but also new programs in Belize and Bolivia. Other iniciatives AYUDA has been a part of are in Bermuda, Croatia, Mexico and Colombia with hopes of expanding to every corner of the globe! There is no limit to the difference we can make in the lives of these children, if we do it together.
Please help me reach this goal. For more information on AYUDA please visit the website at www.ayudainc.net.
On behalf of the children I want to say thank you for all of your kindness. Thank you so much. "juntos somos mas fuertes!" [together we are stronger]
